Friday Night Drinks - Whitehart

22 Whitehart Lane, Melbourne

Our city's urban landscape has inspired some pretty nifty haunts over the years, from rooftop Airstream hotels to bars inside disused trams. But it feels like we're about to reach peak Melbourne with the arrival of Whitehart, a double-decker container bar that's hidden down a CBD laneway and sporting a very healthy dose of street art.

The brainchild of husband and wife duo Stephen Johnson and Sabrina Santucci, the bar's set to breathe new life into a former carpark just off Little Bourke Street, with the pair drawing inspiration from the most memorable drinking spots they've encountered on their overseas jaunts.

The bar is an urban oasis with a mix of indoor and openair spaces, plus multi-storey art installations and striking wall projections courtesy of local design studio Daisylegs. Throw in a considered lineup of craft brews, boutique wines and signature cocktails, and eats from a selection of the city's food vendors, and we're in for one hell of a new CBD watering hole.

Meet Nicole at the reserved area.

This venue formally known as Ladro Greville was rebranded as Ladro Tap in 2015 with the name change a focus on 15 new beer taps (mostly pouring local drops) and a focus on reducing bottle wastage.

End of Month Social Drinks at the Glamp Bar

Glamp Bar, 267 Little Collins St, Melbourne

** Open to everyone to enjoy end of month drinks. Members - Please arrive before 7.30 to receive your complimentary drink **

Join us for our end of month drinks in the Lions Den at one of Melbourne's newest bar, the Glamp Bar.

Melbourne is full of surprises, but we’re pretty sure that there’s no other bar in the city quite as spectacular as Melbourne glamping (that’s glamorous camping for you newbies) bar, Glamp.

The bar is situated on Little Collins Street in the space above modern African restaurant. Glamp is the *only* venue in Melbourne that will let you drink mouth-watering cocktails and nibble on African-style snacks under safari-style canvas.

Usual beer and wine options are also available.

The space has three distinctive areas—a spacious seating area inside a stunning safari tent, an open bar with enough space for a boogie, and a cosy private seating area that’s hidden behind Heavyweight—the resident rhino. Join us in the Lion's Den.

Selected cocktails are only TEN BUCKS all night on Thursdays, and members will receive a cocktail shot on arrival from the bar tender’s selection.

If you’re beginning to feel peckish, Glamp’s recently revamped food menu delivers the goods. Two cheese and charcuterie boards have been added as sharing options, as well as a variety of savoury ‘cigars’ made from Tunisian pastry that make for tasty vego and meat-lovers’ snacks. Overdosed on the cheese?

If you are not a member, book in and join us at this end of month drinks night. Meet some of our hosts and members, learn more about the best and liveliest social activities in Melbourne and start enjoying a great social life and great benefits such as free drinks and discounts to bars, restaurants, shopping, and wine offers.

A recent article on the social club can also be seen on Weekend Notes.

Learn about the 35% discount on yearly membership available only at this social drinks night.

Saturday night: Thai Dinner

Rose of Thailand, 15 Coleman Parade, Glen Waverley

Come join us for an evening of Thai food in Glen Waverley at a restaurant described as a family-run suburban Thai institution with unpretentious traditional cuisine served on tables with gold tablecloths.

A recent review on Zomato states \"Nothing fancy, just good, tasty and enjoyable Thai food coming out from that kitchen of Grandma\'s goodness.\" And, in my experience, Grandma is always in the restaurant greeting customers at the back near the cash register!

All food and drink will be at own expense. This restaurant is BYO for wine only with a corkage charge, or you can order alcoholic beverages from their menu.

The restaurant is across the road from Syndal train station on the Glen Waverley line or alternatively, easy on-street parking is available.

Meet Sarah and Carlo at the reserved table for dinner.

Trivia - Sherlock Holmes Tavern

415 Collins Street

Join us for a trivia night at the Sherlock Holmes on Collins Street which is a British styled pub located on Collins Street.

The trivia night is hosted by comedian Janet McLeod and offers winners $50 food & drink vouchers as well as quiz rounds for Jugs of Beer, Bottles of wine etc. Janet is a well-respected comedian and has a way of getting you involved in the night.

The Sherlock Holmes opened in 1985 and the hostelry has been extremely well received, as have its comestibles, ales wines and spirits. So much so that the worst criticism has been that the establishment is too small for the large numbers of discerning citizens who wish to avail themselves of the sundry attractions which this unique tavern affords.

Here is a home for the aficionados of the works of the eneffable Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, where the friendly shades of Dr Watson, Professor Moriarty (a changed man since he went over the falls) and the Stradivarius-playing, opium-smoking genius himself, the Great Detective, await your pleasure.

So meet Nicole at the reserved table for a fun trivia night.

23 South Warf Promenade, South Warf

The Boatbuilders Yard is an award-winning bar and café, designed by Six Degrees architects. The venue retains the cultural heritage and charm of Melbourne’s famous Maritime precinct, with a modern design twist on its centrepiece, an original historic shed.

Conveniently located on the edge of the CBD at South Wharf, in a relaxing oasis of parkland and trees next to the Yarra River. The Boatbuilders Yard philosophy is to provide customers with an experience of escape from busy city life.

Italian Film Festival - Let Yourself Go!

Palace Cinema Como, Como Centre, Level 1, Cnr Toorak Rd & Chapel St, South Yarra

Join us for Italian Film Festival comedy, Let Yourself Go, and stay on afterwards for a bite to eat and/or coffee/hot chocolate/cake at Chapelli's.

Winner of the 2017 Italian Golden Globe for Best Comedy, the hilarious new screwball comedy from director Francesco Amato (LIFF13 favourite Cosimo and Nicole) stars the phenomenal Toni Servillo as an uptight psychoanalyst whose life is upended when he becomes involved with an effervescent personal trainer, well-versed in matters of the body, but less so of the mind.

With a beard and glasses à la Sigmund Freud, Servillo is Dr. Elia Venezia, a psychoanalyst who is separated from his wife, but still lives in the same apartment block as her. Venezia lives a comfortable and rather self-centred existence, until a spell of illness forces him to the doctor. Instructed to lose some weight, he befriends a zesty Spanish personal trainer, Claudia (the stunning Veronica Echegui), a single mother with an unhinged criminal ex-boyfriend. As Claudia drags Elia around Rome, a series of mishaps ensue, breathing new energy into his tired and predictable life.

Servillo, so well-known for his dramatic work with Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty), clearly delights in a change of pace with this light-hearted caper. Audiences in need of a laugh should definitely LET YOURSELF GO!

WINNER: Best Comedy, Golden Globes Italy 2017
WINNER: Best Supporting Actress (Carla Signoris), Nastri d’Argento Awards 2017
NOMINATED: Best Comedy, Best Actor (Toni Servillo), Nastro d’Argento Awards 2017
NOMINATED: Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay, Golden Ciak Awards 2017

The film will screen in Italian with English subtitles.

Afterwards, we will head over for a bite to eat and/or coffee and cake at Chapelli's.

Meet Selena and Anne at the box office at 5:45pm. The film starts at 6:15pm. The price is for cinema ticket only with all food and drinks at own expense.
