oin a group of fellow Melbourne Social Club bike riders for our monthly morning ride.

Our usual ride is around the Capital City trail which is about 32 km long and the ride takes approx 3 hours and is mainly on sealed bike paths. It requires a reasonable level of fitness (as there are hilly sections) and a suitable bike in good working order.

We may change the ride a little bit this month but the ride will be of similar length and duration. Due to recent cafe closures, we will may not stop for breakfast inside anywhere, but we will stop for a take away coffee somewhere on our journey depending on availability on arrival time.

Meet David and Ian at Federation Square at 10 am directly opposite the tram stop on St Kilda Road. The maximum allowed on this ride is 10 people in total. Please stay away if you are suffering from any cold/cough symptoms.

Trivia Night in Melbourne CBD

Sherlock Holmes, 415 Collins Street, Melbourne

Join us for a trivia night at the Sherlock Holmes on Collins Street which is a British styled pub located on Collins Street.

The trivia night is hosted by comedian Janet McLeod and offers winners $50 food & drink vouchers as well as quiz rounds for Jugs of Beer, Bottles of wine etc. Janet is a well-respected comedian and has a way of getting you involved in the night.

The Sherlock Holmes opened in 1985 and the hostelry has been extremely well received, as have its comestibles, ales wines and spirits. So much so that the worst criticism has been that the establishment is too small for the large numbers of discerning citizens who wish to avail themselves of the sundry attractions which this unique tavern affords.

Here is a home for the aficionados of the works of the eneffable Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, where the friendly shades of Dr Watson, Professor Moriarty (a changed man since he went over the falls) and the Stradivarius-playing, opium-smoking genius himself, the Great Detective, await your pleasure.

So meet Nicole at the reserved table for a fun trivia night.

More information will be coming soon to members originally booked on 24th July. We will leave the status as sold out until confirmation that new train bookings are available ***

The Victorian Historic Railways is putting on a Night on the Orient Express!! We travel from Castlemaine to Maldon while viewing this classic 1974 film aboard their classic steam train.

We will open this up for individuals to book separately. Please book online for the railways experience and then book in here so that we can book a group for dinner together.

If you want to stay in Castlemaine please make your own arrangements.

A welcome aboard glass of champagne sets the scene. A short introductory talk explains some of the background and actual events that led Agatha Christie to pen the novel.

We view the movie as our train slowly steams through the night to Maldon. Accompanied by the sights and sounds of our steam engine, the level crossing bells, the passing lights in the night, it is an unforgettable experience.

You are aboard the “Orient Express" - Murder on the Orient Express.

During the journey and at interval at Maldon the fully stocked bar is open and our stewards are on hand to offer a drinks' and snack service that Poirot would be proud of! On the return to Castlemaine watch Poirot use his little grey cells to solve the ultimate "whodunit".

Departs from platform 3 Castlemaine Station at 7.00pm and returns to Castlemaine at 10.00pm.

The atmospheric Railway Hotel just opposite the station in Gingell Street offers a 10% discount on their a la carte menu just for our passengers on movie nights.

To qualify for the meal deal, you must be dressed in appropriate 1920’s to 1930’s to 1940’s outfits and will be pre-booked. Boas, double-breasted suits and violin cases are quite acceptable.

Dinner starts at 5.30, and you must show your movie ticket. It’s a leisurely 2-minute walk to Platform 3

Choose to stay the night in Castlemaine or take the regional train to and from Southern Cross Station. There are trains every hour to Castlemaine during the day but the train back to Southern Cross will leave at 10.55pm and arrives at 00.55am. We are suggesting to stay in Castlemaine and choose your own accommodation, but have listed the return train as a possible alternative.

The price for this spectacular night is $95.00 plus booking fees which is for the train, movie and welcome drink. The intermission bar and dinner will be at own expense.

Please also know if you are interested in staying the night or taking train back to Southern Cross on the night or if you might travel directly to Castlemaine
